Guided bat walks
Experience our wild bats first hand by booking a guided walk with Jean who will take you on a journey through a year in the life of a bat, explaining their ecology and fascinating adaptations they have evolved over the past 50 million years.
You will be taken to areas where the bats zoom overhead and you can listen to their ultrasonic calls with the help of specialised bat detector equipment. Learn the difference between different species and identify them with your bat detectors. Jean has special licences to keep dead and live education bats and there may be a chance to meet them, if conditions are suitable.
Jean has over 8 years experience in running guided bat walks and other events with Tayside Bat Group, which she helps to run. Her guided walks are incredibly popular, are great for families and can be wheelchair accessible. Walks can be held around Blairgowrie but can be arranged in your local area if suitable.

Bat walks are best held between May and September during the season when bats are most active and surveys are weather dependent - if its pouring with rain the bats have a duvet night!
Bat talks & Education
One of Jean's favourite things to do is to talk about bats!
She has been giving talks on bats for over 8 years for range of clubs and societies including primary and secondary schools, rotary clubs, wildlife groups and after school groups such as brownies. She is also now a fully qualified biology teacher so loves to bring bats into lessons!
Whether it is a basic talk about the wonderful world of bats or a more in depth look at an aspect of bat biology, it is always an interesting night out.

Whatever kind of group or club you run - school, gardening club, natural history societies - a talk can be tailored to suit your needs.
In pre-covid times Jean was able to bring her live education bats out to talks to allow a closer look at a real live bat which was always a great end to the evening, but due to the risk of passing Covid to the bats it is not currently possible to bring the bats out to indoor talks.

However Jean is still ably assisted by her dried (dead) education bats that give children and adults the chance to get close to a real bat safely without risk to the bat. Jean has a special licence to keep the live and dead bats for education purposes.
Please get in touch if you would like to arrange a specialist bat talk tailored to your needs. Great for special interest groups and clubs, schools and after school activities - even a birthday party with a difference!
